PictureYou can practically smell the fug of the college couches.
If you guys know me (internet or IRL), you know that I dearly love Mike. Truly, madly, deeply, probably more than I love coffee and the fifty bazillion dishes of banchan when we go out to dinner.

I do not love his couches.

Well, rather, I did not. See those black-purple things to the left? Those couches? Yeah. I recycled those. But guess what I got in their place?

Yeah, that's a leather Chesterfield. Yeah, it's vintage and I got it for free. What's up.

oh yeah, but one tiny minor detail: it's cat-scratched.

Picture
Like this but instead of awesome rainbows flying out of his paws because coffee, it's claws flying all over the surface of the leather.
The good news: it's completely salvageable. I just have to do a little bit of extra work on it, like shaving the couch (because that's something normal people have to do as a grown-up, shave their couch), cat hair removal and cleaning, and then filling and re-staining the scratched areas. It's no more depth than age-cracks, to be honest, and that's a huge saving grace here.

The buttoning is actually in perfect condition, the seat is in perfect condition, it's still solid and firm AND it was made by Emerson Leather in Hickory, NC way back in the late 60s/early 70s. I am thrilled.

I'll be posting updates as I go through all of this as I get time, mostly for my own posterity and my mom (HI MOM I LOVE YOU), but also for the leather-curious.*

More gratuitous pictures later and also probably a recipe for that strawberry fool thing I attempted to make, and yet it was still delicious when it failed.

*NOT THAT KIND STOP GOOGLING RIGHT NOW.
